Path to the PGA Tour

The balance of power to achieve a PGA TOUR card shifted to the Tour in 2013 and the competition among these highly skilled professional golfers has ramped up considerably. Right in the middle of this heated competition stands the Digital Ally Open, one of only 24 Tour stops this year.

Unlike previous seasons when the PGA Qualifying School was the premier avenue to the PGA TOUR, it is the Tour that will provide the path to the PGA TOUR in 2014. This new system will award regular tour cards instead to the top 50 players on the Tour.

With only 25 tournaments to make their mark, every tournament on the schedule will carry a high level of significant importance, especially in the middle of the schedule when it is make-or-break time for a number of aspiring PGA TOUR players.

The Tour has always provided an excellent proving ground for the regular tour. The list of distinguished alumni includes three FedEx Cup Champions, including last year’s winner, Brad Snedeker. Some big time PGA TOUR players got their starts here, namely Jim Furyk, Bubba Watson, Webb Simpson and many more players who are household names on the big tour. More recently, Russell Henley, a Tour performer last year, won the Hawaii Sony Open earlier this year and last year’s alums Luke List, Luke Guthrie and James Hahn are tearing up the leader boards on the regular tour this year.

It’s not so big a step anymore and, for sure, the players on both tours know the consequences. And, the path to get there goes through the Tour.
